Professional Practice Seminar

9.15am – 1pm:  Speaker  Colin Moore CMLI

Formal structures have been developed historically under which organisations operate and at the same time an array of legal requirements have been imposed on them.  However, in order to exist and survive organisations need continuity of work and income.  This seminar explores the different forms of practice, statutory regulations on organisations and other issues including PII and quality control, as well as professional appointment, fees, tendering and financial management.

This seminar is CPD for P2C candidates and garden designers, but it may also provide refresher CPD for some Chartered Landscape Architects.  It covers parts A2B, A2C, A3, A5 and B1D of the P2C syllabus.

Colin Moore has worked in the landscape industry for 40 years, initially as a landscape foreman and site agent for a landscape contractor, followed by a Clerk of Works for a landscape architecture practice.  After working for the London Borough of Hammersmith for a couple of years he worked for various landscape practices before establishing Moore Piet + Brookes (MP+B) as senior partner for 20 years.  He is now a consultant landscape architect providing advice to other practices, undertaking his own landscape projects and providing landscape training and teaching particularly on contracts and the CDM Regulations for many different organisations including LI Branches, Groundwork, BALI, authorities and private practices.

Colin is a recognised expert in landscape construction and maintenance contracts. He has been doing the revisions to the JCLI Contracts since 1993.  Most recently he prepared the 2008 Editions of the JCLI Landscape Works Contract, the JCLI Landscape Works Contract with Contractor’s Design, the JCLI Landscape Maintenance Works Contract, JCLI Practice Notes 8 and 9, and associated documents.

Colin is also an expert on the CDM Regulations for the landscape industry and has been providing CDM training since 1994 when the Regulations were first introduced

Colin is the Landscape Institute’s representative (currently Acting Chair) on JCLI and serves on the LI Advisory Council and Technical Committee. He advises the Landscape Institute on Contracts and CDM related issues and answers Members’ queries through the LI.

Lunch (1pm) will be available to all who attend either or both seminars
